New Manager Named For Child Literacy Campaign

A nationally-recognized child literacy program in western Massachusetts has a new manager.

Chrissy Howard will run the Springfield City Library’s Reading Success by 4^th Grade initiative.

The library assumed management of the program earlier this year from the Davis Foundation.

The Springfield-based philanthropy began the effort in 2009 to raise the level of 3^rd grade reading proficiency in the city’s public schools, which at the time was 28 percent.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Howard.
