Gov. Charlie Baker has signed a bill to delay the start of a payroll tax to fund paid family and medical leave benefits for all Massachusetts workers.

The tax that was originally supposed to start on July 1st will not begin until October 1st.

Both business and labor groups lobbied Beacon Hill lawmakers for the delay.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Nancy Creed, president of the Greater Springfield Chamber.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
