Top Painters To Transform Building Walls Into Works Of Art

Fresh Paint Springfield

The bare outside walls of 10 buildings in Springfield will be the canvases for professional artists when a mural festival comes to western Massachusetts later this year.

The event, which will take place the week of June 2, is called “Fresh Paint Springfield.”

Local organizations have started a $50,000 fundraising drive to support the festival.

A news conference is scheduled for later this week to announce some of the details, including which buildings will be getting murals.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Karen Finn, executive director of the Springfield Cultural Partnership, which is helping coordinate the event.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
