New Adams Grocery Store To Open Friday Morning

A new grocery store has quickly replaced a recently closed one in the town of Adams, Massachusetts.

After the closure of Big Y earlier in March, another Northeastern regional chain – Adams Hometown Market – will open its doors to serve the town of around 8,000 Friday morning. Around 90 jobs were lost from that closure, but VP of Operations Russ Greenlaw says the new store will recoup some of that number.

“I think we’ve ended up hiring 55 persons from that community," he told WAMC. "They certainly weren’t all previously employed at Big Y, but the vast majority were."

The opening – scheduled for 9 a.m. – will feature a flag-raising ceremony with local veterans, town leaders, and state legislators.
