Adams Hometown Market To Replace Big Y Store

Adams, Massachusetts is getting an appropriately named new grocery store to replace the departing Big Y.

Adams Hometown Market will add Adams as its 14th store around New England just on the heels of Big Y’s exit. Adams select board member Christine Hoyt says the chain told the town it will start hiring right away — as early as Big Y’s closing day early next week.

“They did inform the board of selectmen that they are looking to hire as many of the previous employees of Big Y for their establishment,” said Hoyt.

Around 90 workers are expected to lose their jobs when Big Y closes.
