Hampshire College To Restrict Fall 2019 Admissions

Hampshire College

A private liberal arts college in Western Massachusetts is restricting admissions for the 2019-2020 school year.

Hampshire College announced Friday that its board voted to only enroll early decision students and gap-year students who enrolled for the Fall 2019 semester last year. No other applicants would be accepted for the upcoming school year.

Fourth-year student Sarahi Silva, reading from a statement from student groups, says the college failed to hear concerns from the Hampshire community.

“We demand voting rights for the staff and faculty crisis committee, as well as a delay in the decision on whether or not to admit a fall class.”

Hampshire College, which has 1,300 students, says it will continue to seek a “long-term strategic partner that can help us achieve a sustainable future.”
