Four Freedoms Coalition Holding Third Annual Gathering

A Berkshire citizens group formed in the wake of President Donald Trump’s election is holding its third annual gathering this weekend. WAMC reports an area congressman is expected to deliver the keynote address.

Sunday at 1 p.m., the Four Freedoms Coalition will hold an event called “Celebrating Freedom: Democracy in Action” at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield. The group says it represents more than 150 Berkshire organizations. Co-founder Megan Whilden says the gathering is intended to inspire.

“I think that the past two years have been challenging for many of us who believe in upholding the four freedoms and want to stand against bigotry and prejudice,” Whilden told WAMC.

Congressman Richard Neal – a Democrat from Massachusetts’ 1st District – is expected to be the event’s keynote speaker. Area clergy and recently elected Democratic Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington are scheduled to address the gathering.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
