Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer is preparing for her State Of The City address Monday.

Tyer tells WAMC her speech in the city’s new Taconic High School building will look forward to 2019, but will also cover what she describes as “a highlight year” for Pittsfield in 2018.

“We were able to tax rate for our residential and commercial customers," said the mayor. "We’ve been able to enter into a municipal aggregation system that has been significant savings for our residents.”

The first-term Democrat also touted the city’s improved infrastructure – citing road work – and the recent announcement that online retailer Wayfair will bring a new call center and 300 jobs to the Berkshires’ largest community.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. You can reach him at jlandes@wamc.org with questions, tips, and/or feedback.
