A ban on single use plastic bags will be considered by the Pittsfield City Council in January.

The ordinance and rules subcommittee voted to table a vote on the ban at its Tuesday meeting to give businesses a chance to respond to its most recent draft. This frustrated council Vice President and ward 6 councilor John Krol.

“It’s only been five years since this was first presented to the city, so the idea that somehow people are not aware – if they’re not aware at this point, they’re really not paying attention,” said Krol.

The subcommittee will bring up the ban again at its January 7th meeting.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange.
