Adams-Cheshire Schools End Sexual Abuse Investigation

The Adams-Cheshire Regional School Committee in western Massachusetts has ended its investigation into several sexual abuse claims dating back 40 years.

Clement St. Hilaire told The Berkshire Eagle in August that reports in 2016 were true: he’d sexually abused two boys while he was a custodian at the then-Adams Memorial Middle School in the 1970s.

Five additional men have come forward with similar stories about the now 94-year-old St. Hilaire. It’s too late for a criminal case to be pursued.

A writer of one letter to the Eagle’s editor threatened to sue the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District if demands were not met.

The district responded by hiring an attorney to help look into the allegations.

Because no lawsuit has been filed against the school district, the district said Monday it has ended its investigation.
