South Egremont School Will Reopen In September
An elementary school in Egremont, Massachusetts will reopen in September after a yearlong hiatus.
In 2016, the Southern Berkshire Regional School District Committee budgeted $100,000 to run the South Egremont School, where just 13 kindergarten and first grade students were enrolled.
The five-town district halted instruction at the elementary school to save money, but never formally closed it. After Egremont sued the Committee in April to reopen the school, the Committee budgeted $175,000 to cover the school’s operations going forward.
It remains to be seen whether it will be viable for the district to keep the school open as it deals with declining enrollment and funding.
