State Senator Plans To Bus People To Hearing On Rail Project

A public hearing is scheduled Tuesday at the Massachusetts State House on a bill to authorize a feasibility study of building a high-speed rail line between Springfield and Boston.

Two-term Democratic State Senator Eric Lesser of Longmeadow has made east-west rail a signature issue.

" I am very excited about the hearing, " said Lesser.  " We are going to be bringing a bus from Springfield out to Boston and we have a lot of people participating."

The project to link Boston and Springfield by rail has been endorsed by host of people and groups, including the state’s two Democratic U.S. Senators, three Democratic candidates for governor of Massachusetts, and Chambers of Commerce in the two cities, despite no formal cost-benefit analysis ever being done.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
