Police Seeking ' Armed And Dangerous' Western Mass. Murder Suspect

Chicopee Police Dept

Police are looking for an armed and dangerous fugitive after a killing in western Massachusetts.

Lewis Starkey III, 53, is being sought by Massachusetts State Police on charges of murder, assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

A 48 year old woman was killed in the Franklin County town of Wendell just after midnight Wednesday.

About 90 minutes later, a shotgun blast was fired at a man at a trucking company in Chicopee.  The victim was cut by flying glass.

Chicopee Police Public Information Officier Michael Wilk said Starkey is the suspect in both crimes.

"We are going to consider he is armed and dangerous based on the severity of the crimes," said Wilk.

Starkey may be driving a red Lincoln MKX with a Vermont license plate of QLTMKR.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
