Some Pipeline Protestors In Otis State Forest Face Fines

Sugar Shack Alliance

Some of the 24 demonstrators arrested in Otis State Forest in May as they sought to halt Kinder Morgan’s Connecticut pipeline expansion are now facing fines.

18 Sugar Shack Alliance members were arrested blocking access roads in Otis State Forest in an effort to stop Kinder Morgan from cutting trees and laying down pipe to expand its natural gas pipeline into Western Massachusetts. They’ve been ordered to pay a $100 fine.

Five others arrested days later for getting too close to the tree-felling will not have to pay because of the vague boundaries between private and state property.

Last week, eight more Alliance members were arrested – including 98-year-old Frances Crowe. Their hearing is set for July 18th
