U.S. Army Field Band To Perform In Springfield Sunday

Fourth of July weekend events in Springfield, Massachusetts include a free concert by the acclaimed U.S. Army Field Band.

The 60-member concert band and 29-member soldiers’ chorus will perform Sunday at the baseball field in Forest Park.  The free concert begins at 3 p.m.

Mayor Domenic Sarno said it is an honor for the city to host the band as part of a national tour.

"They are so talented, the music is very patriotic and we have a crown jewel here in Forest Park," said Sarno.

The band’s repertoire includes classical masterpieces, Sousa marches, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
