Special town meetings in Williamstown and Lanesborough, Massachusetts are scheduled for November as officials consider combining the four school committees that operate in the region.

School officials have launched a public education campaign to inform residents about what bringing the three schools in Williamstown and Lanesborough under one umbrella would entail.

Four school committees run the three schools. Coordinating resources and a cohesive educational policy has proven to be difficult.

In 2013, a state funded feasibility study identified advantages of the joint venture. In short, the study found it would give the district a strong financial base under a single budget and attract better state funding and reimbursements.

There will be a number of public meetings to educate the public and hear concerns. The plan would have to be approved by a majority in each town.
