Unionized nurses at a western Massachusetts hospital have scheduled a one-day strike.
About 200 nurses who have been working since December without a contract at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield plan to strike for 24 hours starting at 6 a.m. on June 26th.
Donna Stern, a co-chair of the nurse’s bargaining committee, said working conditions, staffing levels, and health insurance are the key issues in the bitter dispute.
"So we are hoping this will cause them to reconsider their position and reconsider how they are treating their employees," said Stern.
The Massachusetts Nurses Association Tuesday issued the required 10-day advance strike notification.
Baystate Franklin, in a press release, said the hospital will remain open during the strike.
