Police in Dalton, Massachusetts are awaiting state approval to carry the overdose reversal drug Narcan.
Dalton Police want to secure a controlled substance permit form the state Department of Public Health to carry Naloxone – commonly referred to as Narcan.
As part of the agreement, Dalton Police would need to be trained by Berkshire Health Systems on how to use and store Narcan.
One of the only Narcan carriers in the community is the Dalton Ambulance and Rescue, which is mostly staffed with volunteers. Emergency responders in many Berkshire County municipalities, including North Adams, Pittsfield and Great Barrington, carry Narcan.
