Grand Opening Set For Dr. Seuss Museum

Springfield Museums

The finishing touches are being put on a new museum in western Massachusetts.

The first and only museum devoted to the life and works of revered children’s book author and Springfield native Theodore Geisel is scheduled to open to the public on June 3rd.

Springfield Museums President Kay Simpson said The Amazing World of Dr Seuss Museum is the result of years of planning and fund raising.

" It is a $7 million project," said Simpson.

The museum features interactive exhibits, a recreation of Geisel’s studio and living room, along with never before publically displayed art, family photographs, and letters.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
