Berkshire Bank is acquiring Commerce Bank, and moving its headquarters from Pittsfield to Boston.

After the $209 million all-stock transaction to acquire Commerce Bank, Berkshire Bank will be the second largest bank in Massachusetts behind Santander.

Its new HQ will be in downtown Boston, where it opened a retail branch earlier this year.

Under the acquisition, Berkshire Bank will have $12 billion in assets and 16 new branches in eastern and central Massachusetts.
