The mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts is poised to release a new city budget.
Mayor Domenic Sarno said the roughly $628 million budget, tentatively set to be made public Tuesday ( May 9), will preserve basic city services and municipal jobs.
He said this will be the third year in a row that the budget will be balanced without having to dip into the city’s cash reserves.
" That is quite a testament of our financial strength and the prudent decisions we make," Sarno said.
The City Council can cut, but cannot add to, the spending recommended by the mayor. A new budget has to be in place by July 1st.
