Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, is calling called for the preservation of the federal Brownfield program.

Blumenthal says the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfield Program has provided grant funding to clean up contaminated properties, like the Remington Rand Building in Middletown, for redevelopment.

Blumenthal says the City of Middletown received a $200,000 federal grant to revamp the Remington Rand Building into a business incubator, alongside private investment. It now supports about 60 jobs and 24 small businesses.

The White House’s budget proposal would cut the program by 30 percent.
