Several hundred members of the Vermont Air National Guard are headed overseas, although the exact mission has not been released.
The guard announced Tuesday that pilots, mechanics, intelligence staff and others are being sent to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. That includes North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.
The guard did not say precisely where the Vermonters would be based while overseas.
The several hundred Vermont guard members affected will be deploying over the next several weeks.
Vermont’s Congressional delegation and governor issued statements praising the guard and urged Vermonters to support everyone affected by the deployment.
