The Carnegie Medal was formally presented to Washington County State’s attorney Scott Williams at the Statehouse in Montpelier Monday.
Vermont Congressman Peter Welch, Barre Mayor Thom Lauzon and Governor-elect Phil Scott presented the medal on behalf of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. In August 2015 Scott Williams attempted to save Lara Sobel, grabbing a rifle away from assailant Jody Herring.
Williams is flattered but struggles with the memories. "It feels really wrong for me personally to be congratulated to get this medal. I certainly appreciate the thanks. It makes me sad ‘cause it’s a reminder.”
Williams, the Washington County State’s Attorney, says he will display the medal in his office.
