A former Burlington police officer accused of causing a fatal car wreck last year while off-duty has pleaded guilty to gross negligent driving with death resulting and gross negligent operation with serious injury resulting.
Thirty-one-year-old Leanne Werner of St. Albans appeared in court Tuesday.

She had originally pleaded not guilty to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with death resulting and other related offenses in the July 2015 accident that killed 74-year-old Omer Martin and injured his wife.

Police had said Werner had a blood alcohol content of 0.081 percent at the crash scene and registered 0.074 percent during a court-admissible test about 45 minutes later.

As part of the plea deal, four other charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol will be dismissed.
