Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger says a $200 million redevelopment plan for the site of a downtown mall would create 270 homes, 900 permanent jobs and new office and retail space as well as the tallest building in Vermont.
The proposed agreement between the city and the owner of the Burlington Town Center must be approved by city councilors.

The Burlington Free Press reports that Weinberger has pledged to commit up to $22.9 million in public infrastructure upgrades to accompany the project, including reconnecting both St. Paul and Pine streets, where were cut off when the mall was built in the 1970s.

Weinberger plans to ask voters, possibly in November, to approve tax-increment financing to fund the improvements.
