UConn Plans To Close Torrington Campus

wikipedia.org

The University of Connecticut is planning to close its satellite campus in Torrington in May as it deals with state budget cuts.

The school announced yesterday that it will present its closure plan to the university's Board of Trustees next Wednesday. The board will vote on the proposal at a meeting in April.

In a letter to the university community, provost Mun Choi said the recommendation is based on the combination of significantly reduced financial resources and Torrington's declining enrollment.

The branch has 88 full-time students.

UConn faces more than $31 million in proposed state cuts. The university also has a branch in nearby Waterbury and satellite campuses in Avery Point, Greater Hartford and Stamford, in addition to its main campus in Storrs.
