The Great Barrington Select Board is meeting once again tonight to discuss plans for a hotel at a shuttered downtown school. A change from 95 to 88 rooms earlier this year quieted some opposition. The public hearing on permits needed for the roughly $25 million project at the Searles School continues Monday after stirring debate about the historical value of the 19th century building last year. At a January meeting, developer Vijay Mahida said concerns were heard and the plans altered.
“Let there be no confusion this time,” Mahida said. “We are saving the building and sensitively fixing the damage done many years ago by the town renovation.”
The meeting at Monument Mountain Regional High School starts at 6 o’clock.
