Stockbridge’s police chief is leaving after two years on the job for a position in eastern Massachusetts.Robert Eaton said in a statement Wednesday that he has been offered the role of police chief in the Middlesex County community of Townsend, a position he believes he will accept. Coming from Rhode Island, Eaton took over for 28-year Police Chief Rick Wilcox in 2014 when he spoke with WAMC.

“The officers here do their jobs diligently and with pride,” Eaton said in 2014.

Eaton says he is leaving Stockbridge on the best terms of terms. The town had approved a new contract for the police chief just last month. Eaton says it’s been an honor to work with the town’s police officers.
