State officials have released details on a plan to convert more than 300 acres into Vermont's 17th state park.
State Parks and Recreation Manager Ethan Phelps has unveiled the plans for the proposed Muckross project in Springfield, located about 25 miles south of White River Junction.
The Eagle Times reports that state legislator Edgar May, who died in 2012, left the 210-acre property to the Louise Breson May Foundation, which has agreed to transfer ownership to the state parks system.
The site includes a main house, a smaller house, three buildings, a 10-acre pond with an 80-foot natural waterfall and a hydroelectric plant.
Phelps says plans call for recreational activities including hiking and mountain bicycle trails. The transfer is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
