A park on the West Side of Pittsfield will soon bear the names of two people who had a tremendous impact on the neighborhood.Pitt Park will be changed to the Rosemary and Reverend Willard Durant Park thanks to a 3 to 0 vote by the Pittsfield Park Commission Wednesday. Eddie Taylor spearheaded the effort to rename the park in honor of the influential neighborhood leaders and former directors of the Christian Center.
“So this I’m hoping is symbolic as well as a physical place for us to galvanize this concept of it takes a village to raise these children,” said Taylor.
Rosemary died in 2010. Willard died in 2013. The park – like Pittsfield – was named after William Pitt, a British politician noted for his leadership during the French and Indian War
