Body Of Slain Massachusetts Marine Returning Home

Facebook

The body of the Marine from western Massachusetts, who was killed in last week’s attack in Tennessee, will be returned today to his native Springfield.

A delegation including state and local police will escort the casket containing the body of Marine Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan from Bradley International Airport to the Sampson funeral home.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney said the procession will exit off I-91 and proceed down Sumner Ave between 5:45 and 6:30 p.m.

"We are hoping the citizens will come out, bring flags, salute. The family will be with the contingent,"  said Delaney.

Monday’s funeral service is private, but the public will have another chance to honor the fallen Marine along the route of the procession from Holy Cross Church to the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
