Connecticut Democrats Won't Override Gov. Malloy's 9 Vetoes

The Democratic leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly say they've decided not to try and override any of Democratic Governor Dannel  Malloy's nine vetoes.House Speaker Brendan Sharkey issued a statement Friday saying the "general consensus among our members, and in light of some of the governor's concerns, is that these issues would be best re-looked at during the next regular session."

The next regular legislative session begins in February.

Legislative leaders had been under pressure to resurrect several bills Malloy had nixed, including legislation that created new standards for the next state education commissioner. The state's largest teachers union urged its 30,000 members to call their local legislators about the bill.

A technical veto session will still be held on Monday.
