Cheshire Seeking Second Override Vote To Fund School Budget

wikipedia.org

The town of Cheshire, Mass. is taking a failed override measure needed to fund a regional school district’s budget back to the voters. With a turnout of 18 percent last month Cheshire voters defeated an override measure needed to fund the town’s portion of the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District’s budget. The town’s assessment was $90,000 over its levy limit. Saying the school committee has cut what it can, Cheshire Selectwoman Carol Francesconi says the committee and select board are planning informational meetings on the override.

“The town budget has no fluff in it whatsoever,” Francesconi said. “There is no way we can come up with $90,000 without an override vote.”

The vote is August 5th.
