Officials Say Update Fixes Delays In Vermont Health Exchange

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin and other officials have announced the successful completion of a crucial software upgrade for the troubled Vermont Health Connect insurance exchange.

A key problem had been delays and inaccuracies in processing changes of circumstance such as when someone gets married or divorced, has a child or changes jobs.

Officials said Monday the processing was taking two hours or more; the software upgrade will cut that time to about 10 minutes in most cases.

Shumlin had set a deadline of the end of May to get the work done, saying if it failed the state would consider alternatives including joining the federal exchange.

The next key deadline is Oct. 1 when the system is to be further improved ahead of an open enrollment period beginning in November.
