BCC Holding Community Forum On Athletic Turf Field

A community forum is planned today at Berkshire Community College to discuss the building of a turf athletic field at the school’s Pittsfield campus. The roughly $2 million turf field would replace the college’s current lighted grass field across from the academic buildings on West Street. Ellen Kennedy is BCC’s president.

“It also is an important piece for our community,” Kennedy said. “We don’t have a turf field that’s publicly accessible in this county. This would be a way for teams – football, lacrosse, soccer – to play on a turf field. The tournaments could be held here.”

Massachusetts is putting $1.1 million toward the project to mitigate damage done to the surrounding wetlands and improve drainage. The city of Pittsfield has also pledged $200,000. The community forum starts at 5 p.m. at BCC’s Susan B. Anthony Lounge.
