The town of Lenox, Massachusetts has joined an advocacy group ahead of a hearing regarding a contract between Berkshire Gas and Kinder Morgan, the Texas-based company that is proposing a natural gas pipeline from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. The Lenox Select Board recently voted 5 to 0 in favor of joining Northeast Energy Solutions in hopes of allowing the group to be granted intervener status for Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities hearings regarding supply contracts on the proposed $5 billion pipeline, according to Selectman Channing Gibson.

“Because a municipality would give them intervener status,” Gibson said. “We were happy to participate.”

A hearing on Berkshire Gas’ proposed agreement with Kinder Morgan’s Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company is set for June 11th at Greenfield Middle School at 7 p.m.
