A New London man has been charged with sending threatening letters to Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy. The Hartford Courant reports 61-year-old Ronald Harger was arrested Thursday by state police on charges including breach of peace and harassment.

Hartford Superior Court Judge Joan Alexander doubled Harger's bail to $50,000 during his arraignment, saying she wanted him jailed until a spot in a secure mental health facility is available. The judge cited Harger's "significant mental health history" and the nature of the threats.

More details on Harger's mental health and the alleged threats were not released.

A message seeking comment on the charges against Harger was left for the public defender's office on Thursday.
