Speaking on WAMC's Congressional Corner, Vermont Congressman Peter Welch talked about U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, who had yet to announce his campaign at the time of the interview. Sanders is set to announce his candidacy for president on Thursday.

"He's got something to say. I mean, who better than Bernie has been advocating for an opportunity for middle income and everyday folk," said Welch. "They've been on the short-end, 1 percent has done great, and Bernie has been making that case for a very long time and he's true to that and who he is. He'd be a great messenger. And everything I understand is when he's traveled around to Iowa and New Hampshire and other places he's been very very well received. Obviously there is a hunger in the Democratic Party for that kind of voice. That I think is the appeal Bernie has. On the other hand what he knows is that this is an unbelievable undertaking to get in a presidential campaign with the enormous amounts of money and the challenges logistical and political to it."
