Pittsfield School Building Needs Commission Approves New Taconic High School

After a series of meetings, Pittsfield’s School Building Needs Commission has unanimously approved a $121 million plan for a new Taconic High School.After a decade of studies and discussions, the commission approved the design for the roughly 245,500 square foot, three-story building and a budget of up to $120.8 million. Still requiring state and city approval, Massachusetts is expected to cover the bulk of the cost with the city on the hook for about $40 million. Pittsfield schools superintendent Jason McCandless.

“I think it’s a wonderful investment,” McCandless said. “Not only in our kids, but in the economic development of our community.

The Valentine Rd. school is expected to be ready for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.
