The Vermont State Police have formed a Major Crime Unit.
The formation of the unit has involved a restructuring of existing positions currently within the state police's Criminal Division and is not the result of any new positions.
Five detectives have been assigned to the unit, supervised by Det. Lt. Kraig LaPorte.
It will investigate homicides, cold cases, officer-involved shootings, missing persons where foul play is suspected, and other complex investigations.
