Vermont lawmakers have given Gen. Steven Cray, the adjutant general of the Vermont National Guard, a second-two-year term in that post.

The action came on a voice vote Thursday. Cray ran unopposed.

Also, the deputy director of operations for the Vermont Legislature's legal research and bill drafting staff has been elected Statehouse sergeant-at-arms, the position that oversees security and other operations at the capitol.

Janet Miller of Montpelier defeated four-term incumbent Francis K. Brooks of Montpelier by a vote of 128 to 47 in a joint session of the Vermont House and Senate on Thursday.

Brooks had drawn criticism in some quarters for his handling of an incident in which Gov. Peter Shumlin's January inaugural was disrupted by protesters.
