Conn. Senate Leader: No Slot Legislation In Senate This Year

wikipedia commons

Connecticut's Senate majority leader says legislation to establish more slot machines will not be submitted in the state Senate this year.Backers have been hoping to set up slot machines outside Connecticut's two tribal-owned casinos to help stem losses of gambling revenue across state lines when Massachusetts opens casinos in a few years.

Sen. Bob Duff, a Norwalk Democrat, tells the Hartford Courant that the improving economy and rising number of jobs will help generate state revenue and slot machines are "not the answer."

He says the Mohegan tribe that runs the Mohegan Sun casino and Mashantucket Pequots who operate Foxwoods Resort Casino must be consulted. The two tribes have exclusive slot machine rights in exchange for paying 25 percent of their slot revenue to the state.
