Starting at 6 p.m. Monday, the city of Pittsfield will be under a snow emergency, limiting where people can park as plows clear city streets and lots. The snow emergency continues until Wednesday morning. A similar ban in North Adams remains until noon Tuesday. With nearly half a foot of snow forecast to fall on already narrow city streets, Pittsfield is banning on-street parking except for North Street between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Parking in city-owned lots between midnight and 7 a.m. is also banned. Cars can park in the Columbus Avenue and McKay garages’ 3-hour public parking spots without penalty.

“Please also remember to clean snow from sidewalks which abut your property within 24 hours of the storm’s end,” said Mayor Dan Bianchi in an automated phone call to city residents. “If you have a fire hydrant located near your house and you are able please make every effort to clear snow from the hydrant. If possible please check on your elderly neighbors and give them a hand with snow removal.”

Pittsfield’s snow emergency is set to end at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
