A Connecticut congressman is reminding students about how the state's congressmen helped end slavery in the United States in 1865.Democratic Rep. Joe Courtney has released a curriculum guide to coincide with the 150th anniversary Saturday of passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery.

Courtney called out writers of the biographical film, "Lincoln," two years ago for inaccurately depicting two Connecticut congressmen voting against the amendment. All four Connecticut congressmen voted to send the amendment to state legislatures for ratification.

Courtney says the resource guide will help set the record straight and give teachers information to share with students.

Screenwriter Tony Kushner defended the film in 2013 as taking some liberties, but that it kept to widely accepted standards for historical drama.
