Fenton Set For Second Term As Springfield City Council President

The city council in Springfield, Massachusetts meets Monday for the first time in 2015.

The council will meet Monday morning to elect a president and vice-president.  City Council President Mike Fenton announced in November that he had secured the unanimous support of his colleagues on the 13-member council to serve a second term as Council President.

"It is unusual. It makes it more special for me to have the honor to lead the chamber for two consecutive calendar years."

It’s a municipal election year for the entire city council and the mayor.  Domenic Sarno, who has held the mayor’s office since 2008, said he plans to run for another four-year term.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
