Dalton, Lanesborough Added To State Green Communities

Two Berkshire County towns are among 13 additions to Massachusetts’ Green Communities list.Dalton and Lanesborough join Williamstown, Pittsfield, Richmond, Lenox and Great Barrington as the other Berkshire County municipalities in the program. Dalton was awarded nearly $143,000 to support clean energy projects. Lanesborough received roughly $135,000.

Via a highlight video, Massachusetts also celebrated the program’s first progress report since its creation in 2008.

“Fifty percent of the commonwealth’s population now lives in one of our 136 green communities,” explains the video.

Arlington, Belchertown, Cambridge, Natick, Palmer, Springfield and Sutton were recognized for reducing their municipal energy use by 20 percent.
