Joseph Steinberg, Judge, Writer, TV Moderator Dies At 86

Retired Connecticut Judge Joseph Steinberg, who hosted a weekly news program with reporters on public television for two decades and wrote books on real estate and other topics, has died. He was 86.Steinberg died Monday at a Bloomfield retirement home, according to an obituary prepared by his family.

Steinberg was the longtime moderator of the weekly news round table "The Fourth Estate" on Connecticut Public Television. He also taught writing at the University of Hartford.

He grew up in the Bronx, New York and graduated from Brooklyn College and Columbia Law School.

Steinberg was an attorney in Hartford law firms for years before Gov. William A. O'Neill appointed him as a Superior Court judge in 1987.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Temple Sinai in Newington.
