Nine communities in western Massachusetts were awarded state grants Monday to pay for parks projects, acquire land for conservation, and to protect drinking water supplies.
Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Maeve Vallely Bartlett said the grants total more than $2.6 million.
$272,000 will fund construction of a skatepark in Montague, which has been a goal for residents there since the late 1990s. $400, 000 will pay for major improvements to Pulaski Park in Northampton. Land conservation projects are funded in Monson and Northfield. Water supply protection funds are going to Amherst and Springfield.
