The clerk of the South Burlington School Board says striking teachers are being disingenuous when they say the board is responsible for delays in reaching a settlement on a new labor contract.
The comment from Martin LaLonde came Tuesday as members of the Vermont-National Education Association took to the picket line to protest the lack of a contract since the previous one expired June 30.
LaLonde says there was no movement from the teachers' side until a new proposal last week, and he calls the setting of Tuesday's strike deadline a pressure tactic.
Meanwhile, some members of the community are calling the strike and resulting school closures a disruption.
